WHERE DOES THE BRIGHTON DEFEAT RANK IN OUR WORST?

Last night was fun. Not.

A dismal Palace side got spanked 3-1 (a scoreline which flatters us, to be honest) by a Brighton side which played 67 minutes with 10 men. Granted, they got by with a little help from their Friend, but we were awful from start to finish.

It was right up there with the worst defeats I can remember. But where does it rank exactly? I’ve made a top 5 since the season we got promoted (2013/14) of our worst, most humiliating defeats.

5) West Ham 3-0 Crystal Palace (14/1/17)

By far the worst away day ever. Andy Carroll scored a stunner as Palace were swept aside by an average West Ham side. Lanzini scored too, of course. One of the worst Palace performances I’ve ever seen, so much so that I actually said I wanted us to go down after it because we needed to rebuild. Spineless.

4) Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield (12/8/17)

Oh Frank. I remember I was at Boardmasters when this was on, walked an hour into Newquay to get signal so I could watch a stream and we were already 0-2 down to the newly-promoted Terriers. Steve Mounie, who has since proved to be a poor Premier League striker, scored a brace as Palace’s 3-at-the-back experiment went disastrously wrong.

3) Swansea 5-4 Crystal Palace (26/11/16)

Peak Pardew. Palace led 4-3 (having been 3-1 down) in the 91st minute and somehow managed to lose 5-4. How Pardew wasn’t sacked after this, I’ll never know. An absolute rollercoaster of a game (should go down as a Prem classic really) which resulted in everyone being #PardewOut. Can see the funny side now though.

THRILLER: How the classic at the Liberty panned out.

2) Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 Crystal Palace (4/12/18)

Just misses out on number 1. Nevertheless, a very depressing evening. Most frustratingly, Brighton fans seemed to think they were excellent: in reality, we were just f***ing abysmal. And, of course, Glenn Murray scored. FFS Murray. Come home.

1) Crystal Palace 0-4 Sunderland (4/2/17)

SHOCK: My reaction at Half-Time versus Sunderland says a lot.

Off the back of an impressive win against Bournemouth and the signings of Luka, Schlupp, PvA and Sakho, Palace thought our season was getting started. We were wrong. Palace were 0-4 down to David Moyes’ Sunderland (who later got relegated and were just generally shockingly bad all season) by half-time, fans sang “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” and Delaney fought a fan on the pitch. What a time to be alive.

Nothing will ever top this.
